The fact that the leakage of fluid from breast implants filled with silicone gel or saline solution can lead to complications if the outer shell is damaged has often been discussed by medical professionals. But are cohesive breast implants unsafe too?

“Yes,” found three researchers from the Institute for Applied Biosciences and Chemistry at the Dutch HAN University in Nijmegen. Even solid breast implants, previously thought to be safe, can release silicone particles.

This was the result of an international study published on September 20, 2021 entitled “Assessment of Silicone Particle Migration Among Women Undergoing Removal  or Revision of Silicone Breast Implants in the Netherlands.”
